    On Monday, December 12th, TUCS GP student Marta Olszewska presents her Ph.D. thesis "On the Impact of Rigorous Approaches on the Quality of Development" for public criticism. The opponent of M.Sc. Olszewska is Professor Mark van den Brand from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. Docent Marina Walden will act as the custos at this public defense.

    On Monday, December 12th, TUCS GP student Antti Airola presents his Ph.D. thesis "Kernel-Based Ranking: Methods for Learning and Performance Estimation" for public criticism. The opponent of M.Sc. Airola is Adjunct Professor Timo Honkela from Aalto University, Finland. Professor Tapio Salakoski will act as the custos at this public defense.

  • 24.11.2011: TUCS Short Course: Quantitative Research Using LISREL and EQS
    Dr. Francisco-Jose Molina-Castillo will give a TUCS Short Course "Quantitative Research Using LISREL and EQS" between 24.-25.11.

    This workshop is designed to familiarise with a particular software package (LISREL), which integrates a wide range of tools and enables researches to analyse complex models with quantitative data.

    The course is intended for anyone who is interested in how mathematical arguments, proofs and computations can be written so that they are easy to understand and construct. The course is particularly suited for computer science students who are interested in E-learning applications and mathematics students who are interested in new ways to teach mathematics.

  • 10.11.2011: FiDiPro Distinguished Lecture and TUCS short course by Prof. Jeff Shallit
    Thursday November 10 at 12 in Lecture Room XXIII

    It is now almost 50 years since the classic paper of Nathan Fine and Herb Wilf entitled "Uniqueness theorems for periodic functions". That paper - their only joint one - led to many other interesting results in combinatorics on words and other areas. In this talk I will give a new proof of the Fine-Wilf theorem and discuss some of the progress in the last 50 years.
  • 4.11.2011: UTU/IT and TUCS paper received a Best Student Paper Award
    Khalid Latif and Amir-Mohammad Rahmani received the "Best Student Paper Award" at the IEEE International Symposium on Defect and Fault Tolerance in VLSI and Nanotechnology Systems (DFT 2011) for the paper entitled "A Novel Topology-Independent Router Architecture to Enhance Reliability and Performance of Networks-on-Chip". DFT is an annual symposium providing an open forum for presentations in the field of defect and fault tolerance in VLSI systems inclusive of emerging technologies.

    PyCon Finland 2011 will be held on October 17-18 in Turku. The venue for the conference is ICT Building, located at Joukahaisenkatu 3-5.
