How to apply to TUCS Graduate Programme

Prerequisites

Master’s degree
A Master's degree is expected in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information systems, Computer and Software Engineering or in a related field. The degree should be equivalent to a Master's degree awarded by a Finnish university.

Applications from students who have not graduated will be evaluated if there is credible evidence (e.g. statement from a supervisor) that the student will graduate before 1st of September. If the graduation papers do not reach TUCS before 1st of September, any acceptance/funding decision is nullified.

Knowledge of English
A language test is not required from applicants who have already obtained the right for doctoral studies at one of the universities in Turku. In addition, applicants, who have conducted their secondary education or two-year Master’s Degree Programme in the EU, the U.S.A, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South- Africa, are also waived from the English language test. A language test is required from all other applicants.

The accepted language tests are TOEFL and IELTS, and the test score must come directly from the testing centre. The minimum test scores:

If you've been waived from the language test based on secondary education in the EU, the U.S.A, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South-Africa, you must enclose your secondary education certificate.

Application procedure

There are two application rounds per year. The fall application round is usually for the status only and the spring application round for the status and the financing. The dates for the next application round will be announced here once they have been fixed. TUCS only processes applications sent in during an official application round.

The application must consist of the Graduate Programme application form and the required enclosures. The application form and all the documents, except the language test score and the recommendation letters, must be sent by the applicant.

All copies enclosed with the application must be attested true copies, i.e. they must bear the original stamp and signature of an official entitled to attest documents: an authorized university official, a notary public, a commissioner of oaths, etc. Translations must be made by an officially authorized translator and be accompanied by an attested true copy of the original. The documents will not be returned. Please do not send any original certificates. Please, also note that TUCS does not accept any application material sent by e-mail or outside the application period.
