The overall aim of the course is to provide the students with a solid understanding of statistical procedures from the perspective of research and development. Different data types may require different statistical techniques. A basic understanding about the data types is helpful for choosing statistical procedures. The goal of the course is to enable students to comprehend the evidence and logic behind statistical analysis. After completing this course, students will be able to: ? Distinguish between qualitative variables (non-numeric data) and quantitative variables (values are counts or numerical measurement) ? Determine statistical techniques based on the type of data ? Understand statistical concepts and the process of conducting statistical analysis ? Read and understand the statistics-based literature and analyse and interpret numerical information from data The selected methodologies in this class focus on using both descriptive and inferential statistics to explore variables, test and evaluate claims, and identify and describe relationships.
